Last of The Great Siberian Snow Hunts! All the way into March for a Spring Giant Boar Snow Hunt.
The snow starts accumulating on the ground in mid-November and December. The Snow Hunts are great in December and are at their peak in January, extending through February and into March. It’s recommend to come any time from mid-December (if you need a pre-holiday fix) through February, as this is prime time for a Red Hot Snow Hunt.
The boar below was taken in December. The coat is in fine shape and the snow pack was excellent. Nothing wrong with December boar hunts. The lake effect snow comes down as the cool arctic air crosses over Lake Superior creating North America’s largest snow maker. The water is warmer than the air and this allows for a magical time of year with an incredible amount of snow fall.

There is excellent lake effect snow from Lake Superior that makes for spectacular boar hunting. If you can break away before the Christmas Holiday – Bear Mountain is the place to be.
The lodge is all set up for Wild Boar hunting in the North. There is in-floor heat in the walk out basement and that means all your gear readily dries out and you stay warm and dry after battling boars in the snow.

Any hunter will appreciate the lodge after a full day of mortal combat as the Giant Beasts of the North rule the hunting grounds and they loose all fear of humans after dark sets in. When you make it out on the hunting grounds, plan on heading into the lodge at O’Dark Thirty.
January is great because the snow pack thickens and the air becomes ice cold. All the snow on the trees makes for spectacular spot & stalk in the dark cedar forest. You can cut a fresh track and follow the beast into his lair. This is exciting as the boar flush out of the powder and you really never know what direction they will be coming – plan on bringing your big gun.

When you come to Bear Mountain, you will be hunting a true Giant boar in the Great Northern Forest of Michigan’s wild & scenic Upper Peninsula. You will experience traditional hunting styles with your choice of weapons.
Marty Cox was with Dave, from Montana and he took a monster in the snow. He used a 7 MM Remington Magnum. You can choose what ever weapon you like, but these small caliber guns are definitely on the light side. These shots are up close and personal; plan on being prepared to shoot at the 30 yard range. (the 7 mag is real good for long distance shots, but make small holes which are not conducive to blood trailing)

Hunting in January – Conditions are great – the Beast are spectacular.
Hunt Genuine Boar when you want to Hunt!
February is when the Superior freezes along the shoreline and the snow fall drops off. Notice the trees are not all covered with fresh powder. The snow is deep and the days get longer.
February is a good time – if a little cold – and the hunts heat you up. It is easy to get in and out of the lodge and you can take breaks and recharge very easily. Our guides run a tight ship so you can focus on the hunt while they take care of everything else.

Eric served in Afghanistan and this was his personal reward for himself prior to shipping out. He did a nice job on smoking this boar in the fresh powder.
February boar hunt in the snow: Robert is from Utah and has been here in the summer as well as this February hunt. Conditions, as you can see, are excellent.
